From gold to silver

After the relocation of the mint from Meran to Hall in 1486, a coin reform was decreed by Archduke Sigmund and subsequently undertaken.
The Hall Gulden - the most significant silver coin of the Hall Mint - replaced the prevailing gold coins of the time, in which the comparative value of raw materials was higher.
The Gulden is reputed to be a precursor of the modern day Euro as well as being the eponym of the US-Dollar.
